A Leap of Faith into Massage
Sitting at our dining room table, I can look out across the neighbors yard at two large birch trees that stand well over 30 feet. They are far enough apart their limbs do not touch and there is a definite space between them. Many times I have watched the squirrels playing in the trees. In the winter, you can easily see them scurrying up, down and across the trees. Often, they will run right out to the edge of one tree, the limb drooping under their weight and then with one swift move, they leap to the other tree. I am always amazed as they effortlessly land in the next tree.
In 2007, I closed my massage practice as the joints in my hands became too painful for me to work. It was a decision I struggled with for a long time. It wasn't until I was in tears after a morning's work that I finally knew it was the right thing to do. I have often looked back and wished I could return to massage therapy. It was that desire that kept me looking for answers to the pain in my hands.
Over the last 3 1/2 years, I've learned many things about my body and have steadily worked at improving my health. I have learned about supporting my body with herbal infusions to provide deep nourishment for all of my body systems. I've learned there are a number of foods my body does not tolerate well and by removing those foods, the pain has slowly eased away. I now include gentle exercise in the form of walking and yoga to maintain my overall health and treat myself to regular massage to make sure I'm taking good care of myself.
Now, like those squirrels leaping from one tree to another, I am reopending my massage practice. I know I have laid the foundation to care for myself. I am excited to be returning to a career I love and I look forward to providing a healing space where others can discover an increased sense of wellness and come to feel more livacious.
